Vahnam Team · 4 October 2026
Kia overtook Maruti Suzuki in September 2026 EV sales, registering 1,263 cars versus 1,103, as its electric lineup expanded following the affordable Syros EV’s recent market launch in India recently.

Syros EV Effect: Kia Overtakes Maruti Suzuki in Electric Car Sales Kia has moved ahead of Maruti Suzuki in electric passenger vehicle sales for September 2026. Kia registered 1,263 EVs, compared with Maruti Suzuki’s 1,103 units, placing Kia fifth and Maruti sixth in India’s electric passenger vehicle market. Kia’s EV registrations increased 48 per cent from 851 units in August and were 111 per cent higher than the 598 units recorded in September 2025. Kia finished the month with a 3.50 per cent EV market share, while Maruti Suzuki held 3.06 per cent. Total electric passenger vehicle registrations reached a record 35,995 units in September. The recently launched Kia Syros EV has given the brand a more affordable entry into the electric market. Priced between ₹13.50 lakh and ₹20 lakh ex-showroom, it is available with 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery packs, offering claimed ranges of up to 443km and 526km, respectively. However, there is no publicly available model-wise breakdown of Kia’s September EV registrations, so all 1,263 units cannot be attributed to the Syros EV alone. Kia’s electric range also includes the Carens Clavis EV, EV6, and EV9. Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara registrations fell 25 per cent, from 1,472 units in August to 1,103 units in September. The report notes that domestic availability has been constrained because a significant portion of e Vitara production is allocated for exports.
